Love this series! They just keep getting better
I always love the characters in her stories! You feel you know them. I love when the author brings other characters we have met, into the story to act some small part. That way we get to catch up with the characters we have just read about in previous stories!
...but no more. Two spoiled, rich, heart-stoppingly beautiful people begin having sex to pass the time between attempts to access and defend a book of horse pictures (metaphorically, speaking). Apparently recognizing that it might be difficult for readers to empathize with these two shallow paragons, Laurens spices things up with repetitive, academically dry descriptions of the Derby set, the Register, and the deeply-sacred duties of the Register's keeper, our hero.

It was hard to sympathize with the shallow twit of a heroine who didn't appear to have any clear reason to try to get a look at this book in the first place, began a sexual relationship at her first meeting with the "hero," and displayed her total lack of depth by taunting every other man she met with her attention, then withdrawing it when she become bored.

Pris certainly met her match in Dillon, who was just as bored with his easy conquests, just as disdainful, and surprising "in love" with Pris, which I can only assume was based on the deep insight into her character gained during their verbal exchanges (consisting largely of "oh baby," and "yes, yes!" type of dialog). Even more difficult to swallow was his dedication to guarding the Register. I realize the romance genre is overcome with heros posing as spies, trying to catch spies, wounded from the battle of Waterloo, and other standards, but surely there's another option out there besides a man guarding a book.

I really feel like Laurens peaked with A Perfect Lover, and while the last two hardcovers were not impressive, this one was actually bad. Next time, I'll be shopping at the library.
I love Stephanie, and especially her Cynster books. I have every one and any that come out will be joining them!
Excellent! There was excitement, mystery, intrigue & romance from the start & throughout. It was a little disappointing after the scandal broke, but the story was redeemed with the kidnap & rescue of Priscilla & of course the wedding. Great story!
I enjoyed the book, for the most part. I did think that Laurens spent more time TELLing us how "wild" the main characters were than SHOWing us. I'd rather see people be wild than hear them internally ruminate about keeping their wild side under control. But that's a small quibble. However, it drives me crazy that they apparently used a copy editor for the edition that has no familiarity with the Cynsters whatsoever. Newsflash to the copy editor Devil Cynster is a person...and not just any person, he's the head of the Cynster family, the Duke of St. Ives.. Using "devil" instead of "Devil" throughout his entire appearance in the book, shows that somebody had no clue what they were doing. Since this is an electronic edition, it should be easy to fix, and it SHOULD be fixed.
This is another in a series of well written stories, filled with strong characters and mind blowing scenarios. This author brings the reader into her story with mystery, heritage, story line and love. Enjoy!
She follows the same formula in all her stories. Well written, good character development, romance and marriage
