This book is the first of the three volume set. Volume 1 provides you with a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts of R and the confidence to use its powerful graphic features. No background knowledge of R is required. It takes you step by step from using R to perform statistical tests to generating advanced graphics. The book includes over 400 examples and illustrations using base R, ggplot2, gplots, lattice, rgl, Rcmdr, scatterplot3d, grid, mvtsplot, ggally, car and other R packages. An assessment chapter is included at the end of the book to apply the concepts you have learned.
Volume 2, available in summer 2014, will include data exploration, data restructuring and data cleaning. Volume 3 will deal with data analysis.

I bought several of the "AMAZON" published books on R programming and this one was superb for two reasons" (1) the coverage of the material was significant, explicit, deep, and directly to the point. This publication was truly "book" length. (2) The organization of the book was the most readable and(or) searchable for specific topics if needed. The logic of the organization was most likely to instill useable skills with each page read which I appreciated given the constraints of time. Since this was Volume 1...I immediately searched for the next volume which I would buy based on the "deliverables" and value of this book. I needed this book for a four week class I was taking.Product details

Very good book
Clearly written, with very useful examples
As I prepare to enter into another course, I believe this book will be a tremendous help at building upon what I learn in that course.
As a relative newcomer to R, and still learning the ropes, I was looking for a book that gave clear, clean, and useful information and this book delivered on all fronts.
Very well written, and great as an introduction to R fundamentals and graphics. Don't let its price fool you; it is very good for those who want to bolster their fund of knowledge.
A good reference
This was overall am excellent book. There is a large section on statistical test, but it only contains the code and results so you need some background knowledge to understand the results. The only drawback is that it is a bit unorganized and could have benefitted from rearranging some of the sections.
