Novel. I gave it 8 of 9 on my personal rating scale.

I felt the plot was quite interesting, and the characters too. Of course there were some leaps of impossibility in the events, but none were too jarring, and of course it's a novel, so it's ok to have a few leaps.

The writing style was solid too, moving the plot along steadily, and quick enough that you could feel it moving. No dead, slow, or tedious places that I can remember.

All in all, I think it was an excellent piece of work for my Kindle Daily Deal price of $1.00. I really enjoyed it. I waffled between 4 and 5 stars, since 5 stars (to me) means a really gripping novel, and this one was just a tiny bit short of that. But for the price, and for the quality of the work, I felt I should give the author the benefit of the doubt for 5 stars.

I think it's worth saying that I felt this book was every bit as good as any of the many (20? 30?) Robert Ludlum (Jason Bourne) or John Grisham (courtroom) thriller books that I've read.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes international espionage-type novels. Hollywood could probably make a movie out of a book like this.

Oiorpata The Thriller edition by Richard Ferguson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Beautiful Russian assassins brainwashed and trained from childhood to kill and seduce. A CIA mole. Soviet missile sites rimming the United States. A plot to kill Mexico's president and turn Mexico into a Soviet state. This is James Bond stuff.
But while Iam Fleming would have 007 foil the bad guys, expose the mole, bed the gorgeous Russian, save the US and then
nonchalantly move on to his next adventure, Ferguson goes a step further. Or perhaps stops a welcome step short. His sympathetic hero, Ben, does all the super spy work, evading all efforts to thwart his progress, even those by his own agency, but falls in love with the lovely assassin and saves her and her look-alike daughter to boot.
Oiorpata offers the sort of plot and action cloak-and-dagger readers will respond to. A readable story for those who enjoy their mayhem with a healthy dose of international suspense, betrayal and romance.
When I saw the cover for this book, I initially thought it was a historical thriller. The style of the text, the flags and the painted faces scream historical to me.

What we actually have is a tight, wonderfully written conspiracy thriller that hooks you from the beginning and doesn't let you go until the finish. At times, there's a lot going on but never too much as to confuse the reader. Spanning the globe from USA to Russia and beyond, this is a thriller with scope, balls and panache.

The characters are developed well, key in a book of this nature. When a conspiracy is afoot, you need characters that are multi-layered, dimensional and intriguing and Ferguson hits the nail on the head here. Using locations familiar to everyone to pace and enhance the story that unfolds, Ferguson has crafted a tense, taut conspiracy thriller that you will find difficult to put down.

5*. Aside from a grammatical errors, which doesn't detract from the pacing, delivery and execution of this book, Oiorpata is definitely worth a read. For fans of Clancy, Grisham and Ludlum (Bourne), this book will resonate with you and even though it doesn't quite reach the heady heights of the great conspiracy writers, this is still a fantastic read.
Though the plot had promise, it was written in a very shabby way. The buildup of the characters are extremely weak. Overall, can safely avoid the book. Not worth the investment of time.
A novel that contains the seeds of an excellent story, but isn't quite certain what it wants to be.
I really enjoyed the confusing factors of this book but unfortunately the end was a big let down to me.
I enjoyed this book immensely. I didn't think I would because it started out slowly and I had trouble keeping track of all the characters. But I was drawn in--in fact fascinated--by the female Russian agent's story and couldn't put it down. Soon I was racing through it trying to get to the end to see how it would resolve. I took a star off because of the slow start, but keep with it and find the ending very satisfactory!
My First Murder A Mavis Davis Mystery (Mavis Davis Mysteries)
Murdered Judges Of the 20th Century And Other Mysterious Deaths
Richard Ferguson has written a masterful spy novel here that will blow your socks off. The plot centers on Russia as being thoroughly beaten in the Cold War. Unfortunately for the USA, that is what the Russians have wanted them to see, and they are far from beaten. All throughout this time they have waited to unleash a plot to dominate the world.
Ferguson allows the plot to unwind through the eyes of a CIA agent Ben, and his counterpart in Russia, a beautiful Soviet agent named Marina.
The author masterfully invites the reader into the minds of these two agents and their closely intertwined lives. Through them, the plot unfolds, and the reader is able to see both sides; Russian espionage and the US response. Eventually Ben must go rogue, and in the process meets his Russian nemesis with an unexpected far reaching impact.
This novel keeps the reader in suspense until literally the last word in the book, and I could not get enough of it.
No one who reads this could think of giving it anything other than five stars.
